How to Find Your Ring Size – The Complete Guide

Why is the correct ring size important?

A well-fitting ring is comfortable, secure, and looks elegant. A ring that is too tight can be uncomfortable and difficult to remove, while one that is too loose risks being lost. Before purchasing a ring – whether for yourself or as a gift – always ensure you have the correct size.

Method 1: Measuring with tape or a strip of paper

This is the most accurate home method:

  1. Wrap a thin strip of paper or a measuring tape around the finger on which you intend to wear the ring.
  2. Mark the point where the paper meets (finger circumference in mm).
  3. Measure the length of the strip with a ruler.
  4. Compare the measured value with the size chart below.Measuring ring size with tape

Tip: Measure in the evening or after physical activity – fingers are slightly swollen then, and the size will be more accurate.

Method 2: Measuring an existing ring

If you already have a ring that fits you:

  1. Measure the inside diameter of the ring with a ruler (in mm).
  2. Compare with the chart below.

Ring size chart

Size (EU/SK) Finger circumference (mm) Inside diameter (mm)
46 46 14,6
48 48 15,3
50 50 15,9
52 52 16,6
54 54 17,2
56 56 17,8
58 58 18,5
60 60 19,1
62 62 19,7
64 64 20,4

The European system (EU) indicates the finger circumference in millimeters – size number = circumference in mm.

Method 3: Visiting a jeweler

The most reliable way is to have your finger measured directly at a jeweler's using professional measuring rings (so-called ring sizers). This service is usually free of charge.

What are ring sizers and how do they work?

Ring sizers are a set of plastic or metal rings of various sizes used for precise finger measurement. You slip them onto your finger and find the one that fits best – not too tight, not too loose. The ring should go on with slight resistance and be easy to remove.

Ring sizers are a standard tool for every jeweler and are also available for order online.

Tips for accurate measurement

  • Measure your finger at room temperature – cold constricts fingers, heat expands them.
  • If you have larger knuckles, choose the size based on the knuckle and have the ring adjusted.
  • For wide rings (over 6 mm), we recommend choosing half to a full size larger.
  • If you are unsure between two sizes, choose the larger one.
